Wood, metal, resin, and stone turned into things worth keeping.
View workshop coursesI started Jackdaw Workshop about six years ago in a converted shed at the bottom of the garden. It has grown a bit since then. Moved into a proper outbuilding with better lighting and a dust extraction system that actually works.
Everything here is made by me. I work mostly with reclaimed timber, offcuts from local joiners, and whatever interesting materials turn up. No two pieces come out the same, which is rather the point.
A selection of things that have left the workshop recently. Most are one-offs; some styles I can repeat if asked.
Ash, elm, and oak. Each one follows the grain.
Small pieces combining clear resin with burr wood offcuts.
Character pieces carved from lime wood with hand tools.
Small scenes built up from mixed materials and painted by hand.
Mostly British hardwoods. Ash, oak, elm, sycamore. Burrs and spalted pieces when I can find them. Reclaimed where possible.
Copper, brass, and mild steel for fixtures, inlays, and small sculptural elements. All cold-joined or riveted.
Clear and tinted epoxy for river tables, jewellery encapsulation, and filling natural voids in timber.
Local slate and limestone for bases, inlays, and the occasional carved piece.
If you would like something made, drop me a message with a rough idea of what you are after. I will let you know if it is something I can do, give you a ballpark on cost and timing, and we go from there.
I do not do rush jobs. Most pieces take between two and six weeks depending on complexity and what is already on the bench. I will send photos as it progresses if you like.
Delivery across the UK. Collection from the workshop also fine if you are nearby.
I run occasional one-day and weekend courses for small groups. Learn the basics of wood turning, carving, or resin work in a proper workshop with proper tools. No experience needed.
